First, if you have ever thought of getting a seer council, check this out: http://www.thehogsofwar.com/2010/05/eldar-seer-council-jetbike-conversion.html
I might just go that route and screw the hard to do conversions. Just make some small stuff :)
Here's a new revision of the test terminator, plus an older model I painted some time ago that I repainted parts of (and forgot a black wash on the red! Gotta do that!). I painted the Iyanden Darksun / Golden Yellow - 50/50 mix directly on the shoulderpad and, lo and behold, it looked great from the get go. I might just change the formula to white, the mix, wash, highlight. That will make my painting far faster. Maybe I'll give the model a good black wash before the mix tough. Damn, I feel another test coming up :)
The white shield is done with Necronomican Grey, a watery wash of Chardonite Granite, followed by a N. Grey and a Skull White drybrush. Good bad? Let me know!
Don't know if it shows up but the "bumps" on the powerfist have little gold "blobs" on them. Just like you would do rivets on a weapon with mithril I thought gold would look interesting on an Imperial Fist. YMMV.
The old model also have a different paint scheme for the crux terminatus. My personal preference is the newer one :)
I decided to paint hard edges in white on the shoulder pads only. Brightens them up a bit :) Also the side guards are grey with white edges. I am still unsure about that. Maybe I should go red to really light it up?
The shoulder pads also needs a good old black fist, to look the part.
Shows how different the helmet looks in yellow vs white, and also how the black wash helps the red looks better (remember, I forgot...). They sure look like they mean business :)
If there is a reader out there that has a right shoulder pad for a terminator and wants to donate it to me, well, let me know :) I am one short for an assault cannon terminator. I wouldn't mind a "shoulder rocket launcher thing" as well. Yes, got an empty head and am too lazy to go check the Space Marine codex:)
Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI really love the look of the yellow. It's a very unique look, and I can only imagine how amazing it will look with the whole army like that.
All that Tausept and Iyanden (plus washes) gives them quite a dark and a bit brownish look. Earlier models have more of an orange tint to them. So they unfortunately don't have a very uniform look to them. On top of that I am thinking of ditching the Tausept and Golden yellow and only use the Iyanden Darksun/Golden Yellow 50-50 mix directly over a white primer. Seems to give quite a similar effect after all :)
ReplyDeleteI will make sure I get some good photos of the whole army when I am done with it. Have been very slow with the vehicle for sure!
And thanks for the kind comments. I am constantly happily surprised at all the nice comments about my little painting adventures.
I like better the yellow helmet and about that white shields the enhance the apearence of the model,
ReplyDeletegreat work.
They look amazing, both of them. I like the white helmets but I like things to look the standard colors. Looks good either way.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking on how much white to add to the terminators. After seeing pictures I have the impression the more white a model has the more elite it is. So my terminators will have quite a bit.
@woroxon And me who likes the white helmet better :) With space marines you often have one dominant main color and the secondary and tertiary colors aren't very prominent. Like my fifth company marines are very yellow, got some red (Aquila and such, secondary IF colors) and some black (trims, fifth company color). This makes me want to add more colors to the marines to liven them up. Your Orks are a good example of a more harmonious color scheme which isn't dominated heavily with one color.
ReplyDeleteNo comments on the "hip things"? I can't decide if I want to have them white, grey, yellow, or red for that matter:(
Oh, and the shields should look more interesting on the final models since they have various icons on the shields: http://bit.ly/diqsF0
@ashi Thanks for the nice words. I like to start out with something official, like the Imperial Fists in this case, and then start adding minor changes to make it "mine".
The first company traditionally has white as its color. Helmets, trim, etc tends to be white. At least for the Ultramarines which are close to my beloved Imperial Fists:) Look at stern guards and vanguards on GW's site and you'll see how much white they have.
I'll be sure to show my progress when I tackle the "real" squad:) Thinking of trying to speed paint my remaining assault marines by using a white primer and my 50/50 mix. I want to get to my vehicles and start playing soon:)
Great looking terminators. I like the one with the grey helmet and hip guards. It makes the model more interesting to look at. The red looks great with the wash.
ReplyDeleteI also really like the texture you have achieved with the shoulder guard. Great looking models.
@eldaraddict Thanks! The "white" is kind of an odd white I managed to do by experimenting and it didn't at all turn out like I thought it would:) Did turn out quite nice though, gives them a rougher and more sinister look.
