Finished Meltagun and Sergeant

Here are pictures galore of my newly painted Meltagun Marine and his Sergeant. The banner is magnetized (gives me the option of painting a cooler banner in the future as well as stow it far better in its battle foam case), which I personally think is cool. I intend to give them a good coat of GW Purity Seal and then some 'Ard Coat on the eyes (hoping to make it shine a bit and generally look cool) but other than that they are done.

Notice the white 1 on the side to denote first squad. Also note that if you click to get the larger version you can see what I did to the meltagun. I decided that I wanted a bit more color so I painted it in foundation red and washed it liberally with badab black. Makes an awesome dark red! Maybe I should use that on my termies, together with white (1st company), to break up the yellow. I also plan on adding something dark brown to the wash to darken it more. I don't like a black wash on marines, and I don't like liberal washes on top of yellow (they tend to look kinda brownish and not like shadows on yellow).

Next should be the step by step of the other sergeant, and then termies, lysander, and five more assault marines. Then vehicles:) I should put something up on the side of my blog to show painted and queue!

  2. Yellow is very much a love/hate kind of color:) I'm reading Sons of Dorn now
so I am getting more IF fluff. Makes me wish for an IF codex:) Really should be cheap since it wouldn't really need more models, just a few extra variations. Might even do it myself:)

And there are certainly more yellow coming:)

  3. Well if you do make an IF Fandex, feel free to let me know if you need any help with ideas or playtesting! Plus I'll put it up in the forthcoming Homebrew and house rules resource that I'll be putting up on GiF.

I look forward to more Sons of Dorn in the near future!

  5. @Woroxon Devlan to the red or to the muzzle? I kind of screwed up a bit on the muzzle and I need to clean it up. I've used Tin Bitz lightly drybrushed before to signifty heatdamage and then chaos black (or badab black) for that charcoal look of soot. Something do needs to be done to not unbalance the model. I also want to do something about my power weapons in my army (crackling blue/white lightning) but my attempts thus far has been bad. Time to buckle down and practise:)

@bigjim It really would be a lot easier than normal. Clean up the SM dex, remove stuff from other chapters, clean up some odd entries (what's up with assault marines not being able to buy razorbacks?), move some things around a bit. Add a special character or three. But there needs to be something more to make it worth it. I need more fluff to get a better feel for the chapter. :)

  6. Excellent job, I know the pain of yellow marines. For me its Lamenters.... I wish you good fortune, no streaks and even flat color.

  8. @Zenos Thanks!

@Frenzy Blazing Orange, liberal wash of Baal Red, black border, decal. Very quick and easy:) Used the same formula for the "loin cloth". Depending on how the wash goes you might want to go for a second wash and a new light drybrush of BO to brighten it a bit. No wait, I think I used the foundation orange actually. Macharius Solar Orange. Foundation paints are nice:)

  9. Wait hold on... you're swedish, how did you learn english?

  10. Born and raised in Sweden. We all take English in school (9 years for me) but I learned it mostly by myself. Was reading a lot of British computer magazines by the time I was around 11 and then I started to read a lot of books in English, then internet, etc.

My wife also happens to be a native English speaker and I live in the US :)

  11. Magnetized the banner? Genius mate. I never would have thought of that...

As regards yellow - I love to LOOK at yellow Marines, but HATE painting it. :)

  12. No way I could fit them in the army case if I didn't magnetize them. Plus it makes it easier to paint:)
